Located at the California and Tijuana border, San Ysidro is the southern most neighborhood of the City of San Diego. The area is the gateway between Mexico and the U.S. and the busiest international crossing in the world. I-5 and I-805 merge in this area and the San Diego Trolley ferrys people from the border to downtown.
The area became part of the City in 1957, but maintains its village and agricultural environment. It is a multi-cultural community with some neighborhoods of well-tended older homes as well as newer urban neighborhoods.
